About Me

Deb Hanson Woodbrooke (she/her) BNurs (Hons), Grad Dip Mid, Dip HB (KGH), IBCLC, Level 7 Masters in Frenulotomy

Hello! Bonjour! Ciao!

Who am I?

Thankyou for visiting my website and finding out all about how I can help you to have the best parenting journey for you. I am really passionate about infant feeding choices, empowering people to do what is right for them and achieving their goals. I am proud to work with the LGBTQ+ community and I am experienced with families of multiples. You can read my 5 star reviews Here

What do I do?

I have achieved 22 years service in the NHS predominantly as a local Community Midwife and a Specialist Infant Feeding Midwife. I was part of the original team to achieve the first Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) Status at Birmingham Women’s Hospital. I have run large voluntary breastfeeding support groups in South Birmingham with a charity called La Leche League- one of the first parenting support charities focusing on Infant Feeding. I achieved the qualification of an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) in 2019, offering tongue tie services (frenulotomy) from 2023 to be able to provide a holistic approach to the families I meet. I am a member of Lactation Consultants of Great Britain (LCGB), Association of Tongue-tie Practitioners (ATP), the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), Royal College of Midwives (RCM) plus registered with the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

In my spare time (what’s that?!) I like to walk my dogs, (but that’s only really because I also like eating chocolate!) I have 4 amazing children and now live in beautiful Worcester, having spent most of my life living in South Birmingham.

What is an IBCLC?

IBCLCs are health care professionals who have provided 1000+ hours of infant feeding support, plus 90 hours of lactation-specific education and then in 2019 I passed a 4 hour board exam, which we need to pass again every 5 years.  All IBCLCs are certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBLCE) and in addition I liaise with a West Midlands network of other IBCLC’s. Therefore this is the highest qualification obtainable in breastfeeding in the world which makes IBCLCs a real fountain of knowledge for Infant Feeding Support!

What about tongue-tie?

I completed my Advanced Clinical Skills in Tongue-Tie Management course at the University of Wolverhampton (Masters, Level 7) with my clinical practice at Kidderminster Minor Injuries Unit as part of Worcester Royal Acute Hospital. I offer services in Birmingham, Worcester and Cheltenham, either in a clinic or within your own home.

I look forward to meeting you and getting to know you on your journey! Get in touch with any questions!

Deb saved my breastfeeding journey! I contacted Deb after weeks of having vasospasm. Every feed was awful and I was in so much pain. She assessed my baby’s oral function and confirmed that she had tongue tie. She did the revision, and after a week (doing exercises Deb suggested everyday) her latch is improved. She is now feeding very well and I haven’t had any issue since. Thank you so much! X

We took our Son to see Deborah when he was 16 days old, he was struggling to feed, choking, gulping, being sick and very irritable. Within a couple minutes we were put at ease, Deborah is very professional and lovely, she explained the procedure of tongue tie and put our minds at rest. After the procedure was carried out perfectly our son benefited straight away from it. I’d highly recommend Deborah and couldn’t recommend her enough. Thank you for helping us, you’re a star. James R

I revisited Deb with my son at 4 months having seen her when he was just a few days old to fix his tongue tie. The procedure at the time worked a treat. From not being able to feed very well to pain free breastfeeding. I went to see Deb again to get a check up and everything was great with the tongue tie and he continues to feed well. Deb helped me with a concern I had with blocked ducts and gave me the reassurance that feeding is still going well and some tips to help relieve the blockage. Seems to be working. What I really like is her supportive and non judgement attitude. Her reassurance alone is worth a visit! Thanks again Deb.

Deborah was amazing, she managed to fit me in at short notice with no hesitation. She made me feel heard and didn’t dismiss my concerns. Amazing advice and support through and after the appointment. Amazing service and great with baby! Reassuring parents and baby throughout the process.

Deb was really knowledgable and helpful in diagnosing and separating my son’s tongue tie and helping to make sure his latch was good. Feeding was immediately better- comfortable and painless.

We went to Deb with a suspected tongue tie. She was amazing with our son, was able to complete an assessment and division and has provided us with some useful resources to help us to continue with our breastfeeding journey! She communicated clearly, and was able to see us at short notice which was amazing!

Deb was really friendly and welcoming. She replied very promptly to my initial email even though it was Christmas Eve! The consultation was very helpful and she was able to help with my recurrent inflammatory mastitis which has significantly improved since the session. Deb also reassured us about a tongue tie which turned out only to be mild and listened to us about our thoughts on treatment. Treatment wasn’t pushed onto us at all. She watched a feed and was able to offer advice too. Post consultation, Deb sent a detailed email with what we had covered and relevant information and links.

My partner booked a session for herself after having some issues around our newborn latching on during breast feeding. Deb was very welcoming and informative to both myself and my partner. The session was informative and was done in a relaxing environment. When we left the session my partner was tearful with joy due to Deb offering solutions which have improved our baby’s latching and overall feeding - he has put on weight following the midwife appointment the day after the session with Deb! Whilst my partner was extremely satisfied with the session, I would also like to add that as a male engaging in the session, it was an incredible learning experience and I feel that I have been able to help my partner with the information from the session. My partner and I would both recommend this to anyone who has any latching issues with their newborn.

Deb was great lots of information given and very reassuring as we were a bit nervous about our little one having the procedure. All seems well with him at the moment. Thanks again Paul and Alex
